Lotte Lenya - there’s a whole generation to whom she is just a name in an old song.
Born in Austria in 1898, Karoline Wilhelmine Charlotte Blamauer was an actress and singer who defined the role of Pirate Jenny in Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill’s The Threepenny Opera.
Lenya married Kurt Weill in 1926 and after her initial Pirate Jenny triumph continued to have enormous cabaret and stage success.

I am more of a modern day pirate!The nearest I ever got to being one was when I went out to the radio Caroline pirate radio ship in a rubber dinghy way back in 1967.
