Lovely Jubbly

'Lovely Jubbly' was originally an advertising slogan for 'Jubbly', a triangular-shaped frozen orange drink which was popular in the 1950s and 60s.

I remember them well. I was about 11 and we had just got a fridge. Kids nowadays don't realise that this was a huge happening !! We had a plastic kit to make our own lollies and the Jubbly's were an ideal thing to freeze. One cut the corner of the triangle and sucks away at the Jubbly for ages :~))

The term was later popularised by the character 'Del Boy' in British comedy 'Only fools and Horses'.

It became an expression of delight or when a person hears pleasing news, or gets a stroke of good luck.

The phrase entered the new Oxford English Dictionary in 2003 !!

Another well known user of the expression is the cook Jamie Oliver. He used it a lot when he first started out on his television career.
