Could the reason for his delay be that he just doesn't have the DIY skills our forebears had ?Grandparents and fathers used to instruct their sons about DIY in the shed at the bottom of the garden, and maybe your bloke did learn stuff, but just can't be bothered?
But maybe not all was perfect back in the 'old days'....Remember "when father papered the parlour" ?
Maybe the answer is for us women to learn how to do more stuff ourselves ?
