About the only product without a bar code nowadays is fresh fruit and veg from market stalls ! It's use is so widespread.....

The bar code as we know it today, was invented by Joseph Woodland and Bernard Silver in the USA in the early 1950's.
It was first commercially used in 1966, and in 1970 a Universal standard was set.
