I remember when Valentine cards where anonymous and it was a status symbol as to how many you received. I recall sending myself a few just to have something to boast about at school :~))
The commercial aspect nowadays takes away a lot of the fun. People give Valentines to their friends, mothers, teachers etc. It seems to make it more superficial and less romantic. But maybe I'm just jealous that I don't get any cards now I'm old!
