A Russian Jew (born 1920) who moved with his family to New York when he was three. He was on of the first great science fiction writers of his era. He is still well read today as he predicted all kinds of innovations that now fill our everyday lives. Men on the moon, robots, cell phones etc etc.
He certainly influenced my addiction to the genre !
He devised 'The Three Laws of Robotics'
(often shortened to The Three Laws or Three Laws)
These are a set of rules for robot conduct:
- A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
- A robot must obey the orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
- A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws.
The ultimate compliment - He's had a robot named after him :~))
