manual work

Why is manual work so under rated ? Why do lots of parents want their kids to be managers ?

Wikipedia has a very good description of and explanation about the phenomena

Manual work seems to be associated with slavery, low wages, menial jobs and therefore lack of respect for the people who work with their hands.

BUT doing a physical job can have advantages in the present day, both mentally and physically. Building workers are often very proud of the structures they erect. Bakers and cooks can get enjoyment from the pleasure they give others. Being physically tired at the end of the day can be a lot better than the stress often associated with being on the corporate treadmill !

OK, there are manual jobs in factories and workshops that can be mentally less than stimulating, but the camaraderie between the workers is often a strong bond that gives pleasure.

Humans were made to use their body's and not sit behind a desk all day !

We should respect manual work far more than we do. Think of all the stuff that road sweepers, plumbers, waitresses, cleaning ladies (it is mostly women!) etc do to make life comfortable for us ......
