Noddy complains (see yesterdays post)

I used the picture on the right in yesterdays post... maybe Noddy was complaining about his friend being called a Golliwog ?

This politically incorrect name was originally used for a black character in children's books in the late 19th century usually depicted as a type of rag doll that was popular well into the 70's.
However it became a synonym for people from Africa and was often used as an insult.




British jam manufacturer James Robertson & Sons used a golliwog called Golly as its mascot from 1910, but had to rename him when the company's products were boycotted by the Greater London Council in 1983
