scary slugs . . .

We get our fair share of slugs and snails in our garden, but the one I found yesterday takes the biscuit. It's one I've never seen before.

Luckily we have Google nowadays and it turns out to be a Leopard Slug (Limus maximus (literally, "great slug") The adult slug can measure up to 10-20 cm (4-8 in) in length. The one I found must have been a baby as he/she was only about 5 cm. I taught him/her how to 'fly' over he hedge to the tennis courts behind our house :~)

While I was looking him up, I came across two even scarier types the blood slug and the cannibal slug.
